Gadget: Origami

So information is trickling down the pipe about Microsoft's project called Origami. Basically a smaller form of a a Tablet PC. A lot wonder why would Microsoft invest in the Tablet PC technology when it's spiraling down a drain? Well the Tablet was a failure and a success. It proved that it is possible to expand on the pen computing by recognizing your written language. It failed because the Tablets were so expansive and did not offer good computing power for the price and size.

Now let's say Microsoft or another company managed to shrink down the operating system to something similar to the Pocket PC but with the capabilities of the Tablet PC. You also shrink down the size of the unit to something bigger than a Pocket PC but smaller than a laptop. I'm sure you can also bring down the price of the unit, compared to a Tablet PC anyways. Now you have a highly protable system capable or recognizing your written notes, has the computing power to do most of the mundane things we do on our computers. Something you can carry with you easily.

In my opinion, the Tablet PC was just too big, it tried to replace the laptop but couldn't. Microsoft knows it failed there, but there is another market, the compact computing. Right now known only to the Pocket PC and Palm. But lately, you'll notice that even those systems started to grow, they now have bigger screens. People want bigger but not too big, they want to be able to put in their purses or bag.

I believe this was the only course of action for Microsoft, the Tablet PC is not doing good and they needed something else to save all the development done on the Tablet PC OS. Hence the arrival of the Origami system, a small factor computing system with capabilities resembling what the Tablet PC is capable of.

Not much is known about this device, but word on the street is that we'll know more next week.

Stay tune for more on this.

Oh and by the way, I always wanted a Tablet PC but found it too big and expensive. With the arrival of the Origami device, I believe I could come to buying one if the price is reasonable. It's what I've been waiting for and I'm sure a lot of you also.
